If You Really Loved Me

by Gwen
(Northern California)

How many times you've said that --
"If you really loved me..."
It justified so many of the
Things I found repugnant.

My gorge will rise, your voice will chide,
"At least I really love you."
Apparently that's something
I'm incapable of feeling.
"Just some appreciation,"
That's all you ever wanted.

So now that's what excuses you
For doing it again.
You say you really love me,
And by saying it, you win.

If I really loved you...
If I ever really loved you...
Well, yes, I see...
Whatever.
Please don't stalk me when I'm gone.
